Although we feel as if we're in the most exciting line of work (play?) anyone could be in ..................... Golden Recoveries is not in the game of treasure hunting. We're in the business of treasure hunting. While we do have a great time, our goal isn't to search for lost gold coin hoards ..................... our goal is to find them. And we take that very seriously.
We specialize in gold coin hoards buried by the average everyday person in the U.S. from the 1800s through the early 1900s, and for one reason or another, through sudden illness or unforseen accident, the hoard was never recovered because the person never told anyone where the money was buried before they died. Of course many of these people were far from what the local townfolk would call an "average everyday person", and as you read their stories on this site you'll probably agree! We feel these types of lost coin hoards have a much higher chance of recovery than some legendary "pirate treasure" or buried "outlaw stash", because through original land record searches we can pinpoint the exact ground the hoard was buried on. Do you think these types of hoards yield mostly small "mom and pop" caches? These sites can yield buried treasure worth millions of dollars. To put it in perspective. Just 75 collector gold coins from the mid 1800's that were found buried on a farm in Illinois in the early 1980's was estimated to be worth possibly over 1 million dollars. And many gold coins are worth considerably more today than they were in the 1980's. Our research team members have uncovered hundreds and hundreds of these types of sites, through historical research experience of more than 40 years. They have now come together as a team and have decided to try to make recovery attempts at many of these sites. Before we select any site for a search and recovery effort however, the site must pass our historical research team's high standards listed below:
Our research team, using original land records, first locates the property that the hoard is supposedly buried on.
Their next step is to confirm that the property is still on "open" ground. Land can change over the years. What once was a farm, could now be in the middle of a downtown metropolis which would make the site practically "unrecoverable".
The property must be "individually privately owned". Meaning that we will never make a recovery attempt on govenment owned ground such as a national park or national forrest. The ground must be owned by an individual. No recovery attempt will be made without a landowner "Permission To Search" signed contract between Golden Recoveries and the legal landowners.
And now, if the site passed all the above criteria, the real work begins. Our team tries, in every conceivable way, to disprove first that a gold coin hoard was ever buried on the property, and second that it was not already recovered by someone. They do this by sifting through years of historical documents, archives, and records of not only the person that buried the coins, but also friends, family members, and neighbors of that person. In almost every case, in the mid 1800's through the mid 1900's, if someone had found a gold coin hoard, it was reported and word spread of the find. Of course nowdays, in the U.S., when someone finds a buried hoard of coins they usually "keep quite about it".
And why wouldn't a fortune in gold coins already be recovered? Believe it or not, in many, many cases, the person who buried them never told anyone where they buried them. Not even their spouse! This was a very common practice. They usually had good intentions of telling their family before they died, but for one reason or another it never happened. People back then were no different than people are today in many ways. People today still never think that they will die today ............... for any reason ................ even if they're sick. But sometimes, through acccidents or sickness, they do. Why Would A Farmer 75 - 125 Years Ago Bury Their Gold Coins? Actually there were very practicle reasons. Most people today don't realize that the bank failures of the 1930's depression years were not the first and only time in U.S. history that banks failed and depositors lost all their money because at that time there was no such thing as the FDIC! There were major bank failures in ............ The Panic of 1819 ............. The Panic of 1837 ................ The Panic of 1873 ..................... and The Panic of 1907. These bank failures cause many, many people to lose their faith in banks. Think about it. Would you trust your money to a bank if you knew there was a good chance that you could lose it? Many people still did use banks after the "panics", but thousands and thousands of people never ever did again. Then of course there were the numerous bank robberies. A thief makes off with your money and it's gone forever. No FDIC. Sometimes it was simply a matter of convienence. Maybe there wasn't even a bank in their town. But even if there was, you would have to saddle up your horse, ride 1 - 5 - 10 miles or more to the bank to make your deposit or withdwawl, ride back home, unsaddle your horse and put him away! Of course there were "other" reasons that caused people to use the "Mother Earth Bank" as well. Our Business Success Plan Is Based On The "Law Of Averages". We plan on putting our search and recovery team on as many promising "Hot Spot" locations as possible. We have collected hundreds of sites through our years of historical research that we call "Hot Spots". These are locations which have very distinct probabilities that gold coin hoards are still there where they were originally "deposited" ............... and are recoverable. Golden Recoveries uses the latest modern technology and scientific equipment, coupled with expert operators in our search and recovery efforts, including but not limited to Deep Seeking "Two-Box" metal detectors, and "Ground Penetrating Radar" (GPR). GPR equipment is used extensively by most of today's archaeologists. GPR equipment "sees" in 3-D images everything that is underground down to about 30 feet and displays those images on a screen for viewing and evaluation. We have hundreds of historically documented sites in our research files. We know that with our modern technology and professional operators combined with our historical researchers, it's not a matter of will we make recoveries on some of these sites, it's just a question of which sites will produce. While we take the business of treasure hunting very seriously, we are also "in it" for the fun, excitement, and adventure! It's like what Clark Griswold said ........................... "It's a quest. It's a quest for fun. I'm gonna have fun and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much ^@#%&^!+ fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our ^@!*&%^+ smiles." - Clark Griswold, National Lampoon's Vacation So have fun here and don't forget to check the links on the right where you can read stories of millions of dollars already recovered from many different sites. The stories are amazing! You'll also see more "Hot Spots" that we have completed our research on and are planning on making search and recovery efforts on them. Get notified of our project updates!
